Kathye E. Lewis Endowed Scholarship
Established in January 2003 Kathye E. Lewis, who was a Dual Degree Engineering Graduate of Clark College and Georgia Institute of Technology in 1976. Kathye received her BS from Clark, BS in Civil Engineering from Georgia /Tech and then continued for a Masters at Georgia Tech in Environmental Engineering. She graduated with honors from the Dual Degree program and pursued her Masters Thesis in the study of wastewater microbial filtration.
She joined Procter and Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio in December of 1977 and had a very diverse and influential career there for 24 years. Her work in Environmental Engineering, manufacturing, purchasing and recruiting kept her involved with the Dual Degree program, Clark and Georgia Tech. Her efforts to increase the number of talented Black students at P&G were always in the forefront.
Kathye’s many accomplishments included being President of the National Technical Association and co-founder of the local chapter in Cincinnati, member of the Junior Achievement mini program team and advisory committee for P&G, trainer in the Summer Math/Science enrichment program started at the University of Cincinnati to increase the number of Black students in Science and Engineering, Board Chair of the Cincinnati Empowerment Corporation, Board Chair of the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky African American Chamber of Commerce, and Chair of the Board of Trustees at Zion Baptist Church. She also served on the National Board for the National Minority Supplier Development Council to increase the number of minority businesses working with Corporate America.
Kathye was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was one of two children born to John Ashby Lewis and Shirlee Rosabelle Nelson. It was their desire to see their children graduate from college and achieve solid careers. The Dual Degree Engineering Scholarship program was a major asset for her to attend college. Kathye’s desire was to attend a Historically Black College.
