The Edward L. Simon Endowed Scholarship

Established by his wife, Mrs. Jewel Woodward Simon in 1984,

Mr. Simon was born in Memphis,Tennessee on July 4, 1908. He attended high school at LeMayne Institute and College at Atlanta University, graduating from Clark College in 1933 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Mr. Simon was an All American football lineman at both Atlanta University and Clark College. He supported both schools as a member of the Board of Trustees and was Acting chairman of the Board at Clark College form 1968 to 1984.

He joined Atlanta Life Insurance Co., in 1934 as a special salesman and served in a number of positions. He retired in 1977 and was elected Chairman of the Board in 1984.

He and his wife, Jewel, had two children – Edward L. Simon, Jr. and Margaret Jewel Sumerover.
