The William Randolph Hearst Endowed for Graduate Students

The Hearst Foundation, Inc. was founded in 1945 by publisher and philanthropist William Randolph Hearst. In 1948, the California Charities was established. Soon after Mr. Hearst’s death in 1951, the name was changed to the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. Both foundations are independent philanthropies.

The foundations reflect the philanthropic interest of William Randolph Hearst – Human Services, Education, Health and Culture.

The endowed scholarship was started at Atlanta University in 1985 with a $35,000 gift and was increased in 1986, 1987 and 1989 when the total gift reached $100,000.
